Facial Treatment @ New York Skin Solutions
23:39 // Wednesday, September 26
Got a call from New York Skin Solutions on the day before, saying that I have won myself a free trial from Her World's contest. Okay, I have no idea what online contest is that, but being a typical Singaporeans -- got free things, must try!
So... I arranged for an appointment down at Tiong Bahru Plaza today. Actually, I wanted to have it somewhere next week or the week after, when I have rested sufficiently and need not miss my Japanese class, but they mention to have it this week.. so, BO BIAN (NO CHOICE) I was looking forward to this facial session, since my face is darn chui after the whole F1 craze of not sleeping for more than 3 days. YES!! I do experience outbreaks and weirdly, rash, when I do not have sufficient sleep. Not to mention, now even more chui when I work in the kitchen (≧o≦) Entered the outlet, everything was still fine. They requested for my NRIC for registration purpose then led me into a room. Initially, I thought the lady who led me in would be my consultant since she asked for my facial concerns, the products used, etc, but it turned out that she is just a receptionist =.="| That aside, before she left the room, she offered me a glass of drink - warm water or tea. I requested for tea, hoping it would be hot, but it turned out to be luke warm... Don't they know that tea that has turned cold is not good for the health?! They left me in the room for quite a period of time with no brochure or pamphlet to read, before another lady, Jacqueline - my consultant, entered the room. FINALLY!! She introduced herself, and then repeated the questions asked previously, before beginning the analysis of my skin – which is so not useful!! SERIOUSLY! DOUBLE-WORK!! Waste my time & energy! The only thing I understood from her analysis was, the condition and problems of my face (which I already know), and nothing more. Subsequently, she went on to sell their facial treatment package, and how they are able to show me the effects right after this facial treatment. 2 packages were introduced to me initially - $1200 and $800 for 5 sessions, one with more treatments and products included compared to the other. Off course, I rejected the package due to ka-ching ka-ching concerns! Which student is about to fork out such a huge amount all of a sudden, some more tell me student price when the whole idea was actually an introductory price given to all new members. =.="| Anyway, she provided me with a solution of paying in 2 instalments which I too rebuked that the amount is still extremely high. Any student who is able to take out this amount is definitely supported by their parents!! She then went on to introduce another package - $350 for 2 sessions, including this. Still, I rejected. Paiseh. I'm a poor student who has to save up for my Japanese course, as well as the immersion trip to Vegas next year – an estimated amount of SGD $8k so that I do not have to count my coins when I'm there. At this point of time, I felt that they are more concerned about sales than the customers’ well-being. No advice as to how I should eat and take care of my face was given - or maybe it's meant to be a trade secret and share only when you signed up for their package. LOL! It just felt that they are putting the customers at an awkward position – that “NO” was not answer. No offense meant, but I'm a little sceptical when it comes to products that concern my face. Facial treatments don't come cheap, especially not with these big brands, and I’m not one who will part willingly with my ka-ching. And Jacqueline here was being extremely pushy in making me sign up for package. And later, our “talk” evolved into a debate on why I did not negotiate with my parents before coming, why my parents should pay for my treatement, why I should sign the package, etc. Then and there, she went into the "it's your face, not my face" kind of attitude, whether you proceed with the treatment does not concern me, yet continues to "shove" her packages into my face. The typical me said "No. No means no, and that is Final." It’s not like 我靠脸吃饭… And she finally made me kind of pissed off to tell her straight into the face: "If I don't sign the package, does it mean I can't have this free trial? If that's the case, then I'm fine with it. I seriously have no means to fork out such a huge amount within such a short notice. " Jacqueline gave me the feel that she has got no choice but to honour their side of the deal in giving me a free trial treatment, which makes me wonder the percentage of “heart” she put in while serving me thereafter. And I personally don’t think she did a great job considering her attitude after that. I was brought into this tiny little room, with sufficient space for a bed and a place for the consultant to stand. Not comfy at all, and if you are to bring a big bag or such, there’s no place to put. =( The treatment, which I assumed to be since she did not bother to explain what she is doing and applying to my face, starts off with cleansing, normal masking, and finally a clay-kind of mask. Throughout the whole treatment, I felt as though 我在手术台上任人宰割, the difference being the patients know what they are about to go through, understands the risk and how will it improve their condition, while the only thing I know is, I’m going to experience a facial treatment. That’s it. I really enjoyed the cleansing process though, and would love to know what she used to clean off the foam from my face. The texture of the material is smooth and gentle on the face, and I would like to get my hands on one to replace the towel I’m using currently. After which, she proceeded on to the mask, which I suppose is the stretchable-type that will fit the facial size and features of anyone. Then she had this equipment that blows cool air and moisture onto the facial mask at an angle above my head. Personally, I’m a person who neither likes to “shock” my face nor to “freeze” it, both of which I felt when masking. The equipment was angled such that the wind was blowing past my forehead, at my face, leaving me with a slight headache. Many elderlies have mentioned that it is bad to direct wind at the forehead, and as time passes 会头风. Also, the moisture that the machine was blowing out seems too much for the mask to absorb that I felt as if I’m breathing in water. At that point of time, I do wonder if my lungs will drown… Dramatic much? Keke… After a long long long period of time, god knows how long, Jacqueline finally returned to the room, switched off the machine and removed the mask. Like a finally!! I had enough of the air blowing at my head!!! Anyway, I think she wiped off the excess moisture then applied something with a smell similar to menthol, then a layer of gauze-like material judging from the texture it felt on my face, and *poof* she disappeared again. A while later she appeared again, and said “小心冷” then “piak” went the “I don’t know what” onto my face, giving me the second shock + freeze for this treatment! FREAKING FREEZING COLD!! Then*Poof* she went again after applying “I don’t know what” substance onto the gauze-like cloth on my face. This time round, I was left alone AGAIN with the strong smelling substance on my face. It wasn’t pungent, but neither was it pleasant. However, it is not particularly good, especially to someone with a sensitive respiratory system like me >.< They should be glad that I did not literally faint/die in there x_x The substance sort of hardens, which explains the gauze-like cloth. After what seems like ages, Jacqueline is back to remove the clay mask for me. OMG!! She is so rough; I could feel the skin on my face tearing off with the clay mask!!! =X Then she applied something which I assume to be moisturizer… Overall, the facial treatment experience was not a pleasant one. In addition, my face seems to react with whatever they have given me, as such, instead of feeling more relaxed, it is much itchier than before and more rash seems to pop up! Typically, the condition of my face seems to have worsened as compared to before! Sincerely, it is the worse I have ever felt!! And it doesn’t seems to get any better (╥_╥) Let's hope it doesn't stay for long. I don't want to walk out of the house everyday with breakouts and rash!! |
